VFX Artist - Studio Elevation (Remote within UK)

Elevation is re-establishing the boundaries of VR. We’re looking for a talented VFX Artist to help us explore, create, and deliver world-leading innovation in software and VR hardware. Become one of the founding members of Elevation, pathfinding a remote first studio, crafting a new generation of VR development and bringing core VR games to fruition.
As a VFX Artist, you’ll be responsible for the interpretation, creation, and refinement of real-time VFX features and systems, working collaboratively in cross-functional teams to deliver visual treatments for Elevation's games. With a focus on composition, atmosphere, and motion as much technical excellence, help build our creative environment that fosters self-improvement and ownership, whilst establishing pipelines and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with our Art Director and Principal VFX Artist to embody and push the artistic vision of the project, taking ownership over VFX needs.
- Add your own stamp on creativity by prototyping, visualizing and creating all-new, exciting, and immersive VFX.
- Delivering new and inventive ideas to solve complex issues that arise from VFX within a VR Environment.
- Working with a level of self-driven autonomy, whilst reliably and effectively participating in team development.
Requirements
Essential capabilities:
- Real-time engine experience ideally in Unreal, creating VFX blueprints, shader networks, particle interactions, dynamic systems, lighting, and post-processing.
- Able to create a variety of styles of real-time VFX throughout multiple aspects of game development, including characters or weapon-based to environmental or destructive elements.
- Demonstrate a strong technical aptitude and knowledge base for appropriate software and real-time engine use, UE / Unity for example.
- Understand rigging and skinning solutions and potential for physics-driven or simulated appendages.
- Have a fundamental understanding of animation, timing and weighting with reference to animated VFX or pre-canned sequences.
- Working knowledge of industry-standard project management tools and source control software.
- A passion for video games, art, and personal development.
- A positive, outgoing, can-do attitude, who can adapt based on feedback.
- Comfortable working in an agile environment, responsive to change in the face of uncertainty.
- Experience and confidence when developing and mentoring up–and–coming VFX artists.
Desired experience:
- Excellent working knowledge of Maya, Adobe Creative Suite, substance, Houdini, PBR workflow.
- 3 years’ experience in real-time game development, with demonstrable results.
- Demonstrable VFX skills showing a strong understanding of technical console limitations and capabilities
- An aptitude to apply themselves to new technologies.
