We are looking for a Senior Artist to help bring our unannounced next-gen VR game to life at Near Light. If you see the potential in VR and want to collaborate with a talented team to explore, create, and deliver innovative software, we want to hear from you!

Our studio’s goal is to create trail-blazing, fresh and exciting immersive entertainment, bringing together the best of every discipline to converge on truly innovative games and experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the art director to embody the artistic vision of the project.
  • Creating unique and varied awe-inspiring worlds.
  • Constructing content from block-out to final in-game asset, whilst considering the framework, limitations, and design.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the art team through reviews and feedback.
  • Verifying art in VR and making improvements where necessary to fit technical limitations and artistic direction.
  • Contributing to other areas of the project when possible - such as marketing artwork & 2D asset creation.

Requirements

Essential capabilities:

  • Experience of high and low polygon modelling, sculpting and a good knowledge of PBR material workflow via software packages such as Maya, Z-Brush, Substance, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of implementing art in Unreal or similar game engines.
  • Experience achieving simplistic artwork on more constrained devices (such as mobile), with an understanding of platform limitations, memory, and performance.
  • A good grasp of art and design fundamentals (including anatomy, texture, colour, and depth theories).
  • Working knowledge of industry-standard project management tools and source control software.
  • A passion for video games, art, and commitment to personal development.
  • A creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Positive and outgoing personality with a can-do attitude and be able to adapt based on feedback.
  • A true team player, able to work collaboratively as a part of a multi-discipline team with the initiative, drive, and organisation skills to deliver excellent results on time.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment and responsive to change in the face of uncertainty.
  • Interest in the VR market and the latest gameplay innovations.

Benefits

Who we are -

Near Light is the latest studio to join nDreams, the award-winning developer and publisher delivering world-leading interactive VR experiences.

We are looking for new team members who can help shape our next-generation VR games. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, gender identities and experience levels to apply for this role.

Why Near Light?

Our growing studio shares a passion for innovation, collaboration and defining the future of VR. We encourage an open, creative, and diverse culture, and empower people to explore their ideas and put their own stamp on our projects. With humble beginnings as an independent studio of our own, we combine big projects and opportunities with a personal, caring touch.

We have the small, inclusive, and open creative atmosphere of a start-up, with the experience and backing of the team behind titles including Shooty Fruity, Fracked, and the best-selling, award-winning Phantom: Covert Ops. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the culture of a growing studio and be at the heart of both a new team and project right from the start.

We offer in-house, hybrid and remote working opportunities alongside great perks, including flexible hours, duvets days, your birthday off, dedicated personal development time and support, and regular socials and parties. Beyond this, there’s an excellent holiday offering, pension scheme, health insurance, life cover and much more.
