VFX and Lighting Artist - Orbital (Remote)

nDreams Studio Orbital is looking for talented people to help pioneer development in live service games for VR that will entertain players for years. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of both a new team and project right from the start.

We are looking for an artist who enhances worlds with beautiful lighting solutions and boosts our players’ experience with stunning visual effects. The ideal candidate should have a good knowledge of games art and will become the go-to person for lighting and VFX on the project. They will work collaboratively across the project to ensure amazing artwork is professionally presented and brought to life.

  • Working with the art director to embody the artistic vision of the project and take ownership over lighting and VFX needs.
  • Prototyping, visualizing and creating VFX that excite and immerse our players, whilst fully capturing our design aspirations and staying mindful of platform limitations.
  • Producing high quality lighting solutions that respect the project’s technical constraints and artistic pillars.
  • Delivering new and inventive ideas to solve complex issues that arise from VFX and lighting within a VR Environment.
  • Working with a level of self-driven autonomy, whilst reliably and effectively participating in team development.
  • Contributing to other areas of the project when possible, such as shader authoring and 3D content creation.


  • Real-time engine experience ideally in Unreal, creating VFX blueprints, shader networks, particle interactions, dynamic systems, lighting, and post processing.
  • Strong 2D and 3D skills in art software packages such as Maya, Substance, and Photoshop.
  • Experience achieving stunning artwork on constrained devices, with an understanding of platform limitations, memory, and performance.
  • Good understanding of art fundamentals and design (including shape, form, composition, dynamics, colour, and depth theories)
  • Working knowledge of industry standard project management tools and source control software.
  • A passion for video games, art, and commitment to personal development.
  • A creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Positive and outgoing personality with a can-do attitude and be able to adapt based on feedback.
  • A true team player, able to work collaboratively as a part of a multidiscipline team with the initiative, drive, and organisation skills to deliver excellent results on time.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment and responsive to change in the face of uncertainty.
  • Interest in the VR market and the latest gameplay innovations.
